Intro to fit testing
Fit Testing Ensures:
The respirator matches the wearerās facial features. A reliable seal is achieved during real-world movements (talking, bending, turning, breathing). Compatibility with other PPE such as safety glasses, helmets, and hearing protection. Compliance with AS/NZS 1715:2009 requirements for respiratory protection programs. Annual fit testing is strongly recommended, and required by many safety standards worldwide.

Respirators only protect workers if they form a secure seal to the face. Even small leaks can allow contaminated air to bypass the filter, putting health at risk. Every face is different in shape and size, which means a one-size-fits-all approach doesnāt work.
Fit Testing Methods
We offer the Qualitative testing method at PCS.
Qualitative Fit Test (QLFT): Most methods of qualitative testing use harmless test agents (BitrexĀ® or saccharin). This requires the wearer to provide input on the fit test. Suitable for disposable and half-mask respirators only.

What we Offer
PCS provides qualitative respirator fit testing using validated industry methods, in line with international standards (ISO 16975-3 and OSHA 1910.134 protocols).
Our Service Includes:
Qualitative Fit Test using BitrexĀ® or Saccharine taste solution methods.
Testing conducted in a safe, ventilated environment with standardised exercises (normal breathing, talking, head movements, bending).
Sensitivity checks to ensure the wearer can detect the test solution before the fit test.
Pass/Fail assessment confirming if the respirator provides a reliable seal.
Training on correct donning, user seal checks, and respirator care.
A PCS Fit Test Certificate valid for 12 months (or until facial/respirator changes occur).
Documentation in line with ISO 16975-3 and AS/NZS 1715 standards.
Duration: approx. 15ā20 minutes per person (may vary depending on respirator type).
Before your appointment
To ensure accurate results, all participants must:
Be clean-shaven where the respirator seals to the face (facial hair prevents a proper seal).
Avoid eating, drinking (except water), smoking, or vaping for at least 30ā60 minutes before the test.
Bring your own respirator Ā that is used in your work place (clean, with new filters if required) and any PPE (glasses, hard hats, etc.) normally worn at work.
