Powder Coating

Why choose Powder Coating?

The benefits of powder coating include extreme durability against chips, scratches, and fading, along with a wide range of colour options including metallic, clear, and textured finishes. Additionally, powder coating is more environmentally friendly than spray painting because it does not use solvents or release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), reducing its impact on air quality and the environment.

We primarily use NZ made powders from Dulux Powders, these powders are high
quality and made specifically to withstand our Kiwi weather conditions.

Why Should I Choose Powder Coating Over Traditional Wet Paint or Spray Painting?
Durability

Powder coating creates a hard, durable finish that is more resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and general wear compared to traditional wet paint. This makes it ideal for surfaces that will be exposed to harsh conditions or frequent use.

Powder coating is more environmentally friendly than wet paint because it does not contain solvents and does not release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere.

Powder coating offers a variety of finishes and colors, including metallic, clear, and textured options, providing more flexibility in achieving the desired look and feel.

Powder coating typically cures faster than wet paint, as it involves a heat-curing process. This can lead to quicker turnaround times for projects.

Overall, powder coating is a durable, cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and versatile finishing option, making it a superior choice to traditional wet paint or spray painting for many applications.

With 16 team members, our factory runs 20 hours a day, five days a week, we don’t just service big commercial clients, we will service any customer with their one-off bicycle frame or a single door handle.

Our services include specialty finishes in an extensive range of powder coating colours, suited to a variety of metal and aluminium surfaces and products. Depending on the material of your product, we will chemically pretreat your product prior to painting it to ensure a long lasting finish, as we believe a good powder coating job should last for years and not have paint flake off in 6-12 months.

uses and benefits

Powder coating is a versatile, durable, and environmentally friendly finishing process that is ideal for a wide range of applications across various industries. Benefits, including corrosion resistance, cost-effectiveness, and aesthetic versatility, make it a preferred choice for manufacturers and consumers.

Uses:

Automotive Industry

Used on wheels, rims, engine parts, and other automotive components to provide a durable, rust-resistant finish that can withstand harsh weather conditions and road debris.

Applied to metal frameworks, fences, railings, doors, and window frames to provide a weather-resistant, attractive finish that protects against corrosion and UV damage.

Commonly used on household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens to give a sleek, durable finish that is resistant to scratches and chemicals.

Ideal for metal and outdoor furniture, powder coating offers a tough finish that resists wear, rust, and fading, even when exposed to outdoor elements.

Used to coat various industrial machines and parts to protect against rust, corrosion, and general wear and tear, ensuring longevity and reducing maintenance costs.

Provides a durable, aesthetic coating on gym equipment, bicycles, and sports gear, offering both protection and an attractive finish.

Utilized on enclosures, brackets, and components to protect sensitive electronic parts from corrosion, moisture, and electrical interference.

Applied to various consumer products such as garden tools, metal toys, and home decor items to enhance their durability and aesthetic appeal.

Benefits:

Durability

Powder-coated surfaces are highly resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and wear, making them ideal for items that experience frequent use or are exposed to harsh environments.

Powder coating provides excellent protection against corrosion, rust, and chemical damage, particularly important for outdoor and industrial applications.

Powder coating is a more eco-friendly option compared to traditional liquid paint. It contains no solvents and releases negligible amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere, reducing environmental impact and improving air quality.

Although the initial costs for powder coating equipment can be higher, the process is more efficient in the long run due to minimal waste, recyclable overspray, and reduced labor costs. Additionally, the durability of the coating reduces the need for frequent reapplications or repairs.

Powder coating offers a wide range of colors, finishes (such as gloss, matte, textured, metallic, and clear), and special effects that can enhance the appearance of products. It also allows for consistent application, ensuring an even, high-quality finish without drips or runs.

The powder coating process is faster than traditional painting methods.
The coating cures quickly in an oven, reducing production time and increasing throughput in manufacturing processes.

Powder coating is safer for workers than liquid paint because it doesn’t require solvents, reducing the risk of exposure to harmful chemicals and fire hazards. Additionally, powder coating equipment is designed to minimize dust and particulate exposure.

Powder coating adheres well to metal substrates and can achieve uniform coverage, including hard-to-reach areas and complex geometries, providing comprehensive protection.

product care

To maintain the appearance and durability of your powder-coated surfaces, regular cleaning is essential. The frequency of cleaning depends on the environment, with urban areas requiring at least annual cleaning and coastal or industrial locations needing more frequent care. To clean, gently remove loose debris with a wet sponge, wash with a mild detergent and soft brush, then rinse with clean water. Avoid harsh chemicals, excessive scrubbing, or cleaning in high temperatures, as these can damage the coating. Regular inspections and proper maintenance will help extend the life of your powder-coated product.

Environmental benefits

Compared to the ingredients used in many forms of surface finishing, powder coating materials are environmentally friendly. Paint solvents and thinners are very harmful if released into the environment, and some automotive paints will continue to leach volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) for many years if not disposed of carefully. Metal plating as applied to nickel and chrome uses heavy metals that are extremely toxic, and which will do long-lasting damage if they leach into the soil or find their way into the water table.

Power coating is the environmentally friendly alternative to toxic wet paints and electro plating. The coating process does not use solvents, meaning there are no VOC emissions. Powder coating is just that, the application of a powder – one that is non-toxic, can be used on products such as food service equipment, and which in its raw form is no more harmful than dust.

In addition, current technical advice is that any powder coating on frames or posts located inground, will not leach into the soil which is advantageous when near plants. We are leaders in environmentally sound practices, ensuring all by-products are recycled or properly disposed of after appropriate treatment.
