How we got to where we are
Our Story
Established in 1992, Powder Coating Services Ltd emerged from a visionary pursuit by George Longstaff, the founder of Metal Art.
Recognising the imperative for impeccable finishes in architectural furniture, George took decisive action to oversee the process himself. Partnering with his brother Jim to helm operations. As a result, they transformed the venture into an independent entity. This milestone marked the beginning of our journey.
The exceptional craftsmanship showcased by Metal Art swiftly garnered attention across industries. Whether we were elevating shops and cafés or transforming corporate spaces, our focus on excellence quickly drove our powder coating growth.
We understood that the cornerstone of powder coating excellence lies in meticulous preparation. Therefore, we committed ourselves to mastering pre-treatment processes, laying the groundwork for unparalleled quality. As our reputation solidified, we expanded our capabilities. This included adding more spray booths and oven curing facilities.
In 1995, the arrival of Dave Beazer fortified our administrative and sales prowess, catalyzing further growth. Following Jim’s retirement in 2012, Shane Fahey assumed the role of Dave’s assistant manager.Â
After 24 years with PCS, 2019 marked the well-earned retirement of Dave Beazer. Meanwhile, Wei Ting stepped in as Manager. Wei triggered the focus on improving the efficiency of our production processes. Consequently, these changes streamlined the administration process and improved data crunching. Together, they helped PCS become the premier powder coating company in the Wellington region.
Today, Powder Coating Services stands as a beacon of excellence in the Wellington region, extending our reach to clients nationwide. Our state-of-the-art facility boasts an array of spray booths and two batch ovens. Operating 20 hours a day, five days a week, this setup empowers us to tackle projects of any scale with unparalleled precision.
George’s son, Carl Longstaff now leads PCS as Managing Director. Carl ensures this local family business stays true to it’s commitment to ethical business practice and traditional values. Under Carl’s leadership and vision, PCS has continued to evolve, innovate and build on growing our reputation as an industry expert within our field.
Over the years, we’ve earned prestigious certifications, including membership in Qnet and recognition as a qualified applicator of Dulux Architectural Powder Coatings.
