At Powder Coating Services (PCS), powder coating public spaces is core to what we do. We help create places that are inclusive, enduring, and visually striking. Our recent project at Te Tōpūnga Hapori i Daly Street shows this in action. This vibrant pop-up park in central Lower Hutt gained both durability and standout design from expert powder coating.
A Community-Led Transformation
Hutt City Council led the Daly Street initiative. The council turned a formerly empty urban block into a lively, multifunctional space. Community feedback shaped every part of the design. The park now includes areas for rest, play, urban gardening, and socialising — a welcoming destination for everyone.

Powder Coating Public Spaces, Built to Last
Our team at PCS worked closely with our parent company, Metal Art. Metal Art fabricated the bespoke furniture and structures for the site. We delivered the project’s look and durability through precision powder coating. This covered every metal element, including the basketball hoop, seating frames, and planter boxes.
We chose these finishes for their vivid colour and outdoor durability. This is powder coating public spaces at its best. The finish handles heavy daily use without losing its vibrancy.

Wheelchair-Accessible Community Planters
One of the project’s most meaningful features is the suite of wheelchair-accessible community planters. These raised planters make urban gardening easy for everyone to enjoy. They support the project’s core values of accessibility and wellbeing.
The powder coating on these planters matters most here. It gives them a smooth, safe, weather-resistant finish that handles years of community use.

A Bold Basketball Hoop, Built to Last
A bold purple powder-coated basketball hoop quickly became a visual anchor for the space. It draws attention and activity from across the park.
The team carefully coated every element, from benches to modular structures, to support the Council’s low-waste, reusable design goals. The flexibility and resilience of powder-coated finishes mean the team can relocate or repurpose these pieces. This suits Lower Hutt’s long-term redevelopment strategy.

Finishes That Go Beyond Surface Appearance
At PCS, we take pride in delivering finishes that do more than just look good. For us, powder coating public spaces like Daly Street is about more than appearance. Every coat represents our commitment to sustainability, quality, and community.
Te Tōpūnga Hapori i Daly Street shows what thoughtful collaboration between councils, designers, and local experts can achieve. We’re honoured to have contributed our expertise to this dynamic project. Looking ahead, we hope to help shape more meaningful, enduring public spaces.
